Who won the 2016 Bouldering World Cup?
If, on the women side, the ultimate gold medal of the circuit was already promised to Shauna Coxsey (GBR), on the men side, Tomoa Narasaki (JPN) managed to win the overall ranking during the last stage of the World Cup in Munich!
Coxsey untouchable in the women competition !
4 victories, 2 bronze medals and one top 10 for Shauna Coxsey (GBR) this season.
A summary that allows her to rise on the highest step of the podium. The British was untouchable (or almost) this season.
With her victory during the last stage in Munich, Miho Nonaka ( JPN) keeps her 2nd place in the general ranking: the Japanese signs an impressive 2016 season and will be undoubtedly a serious pretender in the World Championships in Paris.
Managing a realistic 4th place in Munich, the French woman Mélissa Le Nevé keeps her distances with the Japanese Akiyo Noguchi (3rd on the German stage) in the general ranking of the World Cup.
Mélissa Le Nevé took the bronze of the overall ranking. A podium which concludes a solid World Cup for the French woman: twice in silver, in Kazo (JPN) and Meiringen (SUI) and three times at the bottom of the podium. She missed only two final rounds this year. Her worst result in 2016? A 8th rank in Austria!
Japan on the top of the world for the men!
On the men side, the top 3 of the season was being decided during the ultimate German final of the season. And Munich smiled to the Japanese Tomoa Narasaki. The elimination in semi-final of his teammate Kokoro Fujii – before that at the top of the overall ranking - left the field open for him to try to take the stage and the 2016general ranking. The Japanese did not miss his chance and returns home from Germany with two gold medals! Fujii contents himself with silver in the general ranking, when the Russian Alexey Rubtsov takes the bronze.
This podium puts an end to a very open circuit of competitions this season – we noticed an unusual turnover on the men side. Two nations were really impressive this year: Japan and Russia who took most of the medals in the circuit.
Those are good indications for the bouldering competition in the Climbing World Championships of Paris, which qualifications will start on Thursday, September 16th.
